Background:
The Siem Reap Chamber of Commerce (SRCC) was established on December 26, 2004, in the form of a public institute under the provisions of the law on “Chamber of Commerce” and protectorate of Ministry of Commerce.
On May 16, 2004 under the sub-decree No. 42 Or.Nor.Kro on the procedure and organize election of Chamber of Commerce for Siem Reap Province. The Siem Reap Chamber of Commerce was created under sub-decree No. 26 Or.Nor.Kro BK dated July 22, 2004. The Siem Reap Chamber of Commerce operated its first election for the first mandate on December 26, 2004.
Nowadays, the Siem Reap Chamber of Commerce is under the leadership of Mr. Pheng Kong, that he is a successfully candidate in election on July 22, 2004.
The Siem Reap Chamber of Commerce has had 15 elected members. On 29 December 2004, the SRCC was voted as vice-president, that responsible for four sectors, only one member in charge of finance and two advisors members who conduct their businesses and enterprises in Siem Reap province, Kingdom of Cambodia.
Meanwhile, the SRCC has assigned four Vice-Presidents and four chiefs to be in charge of Commerce, Industry & Handicraft, Agriculture, and Service sectors.
SRCC was signed memorandum of understanding with the Seven Provincial-Municipal Chamber of Commerce for business strengthening cooperation and both advantage.
In order to promote and develop the national economy, to increase effectiveness and transparency in implementing the government’s economic policy, and to respond by suggestions from the private sector, the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) authorized the SRCC to join in Seven Working Groups (WGs). These seven WGs have been working very well with the government in promoting trade and investment in Cambodia.
According to the law for establishment the SRCC that mean, the SRCC has the following objectives: To establish relationships with regional economics and oversea countries.
1. To improve the enterprise efficiency for the interests of the four sectors. 2. To increase the dissemination of business opportunities in Cambodia in order to attract investors as well as to promote investment in Siem Reap province. 3. To play a role as a mediator in resolving business disputes. 4. To ensure the autonomous management of the Chamber by conducting membership elections and facilitating new membership applications. 5. To continue supporting and promoting the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Siem Reap province, Kingdom of Cambodia. 6. To create vocational training centers relating to business field and another sector also. 7. To promote and mediate and even support all concepts for strengthening and improving the capacity of staff of the SRCC’s secretariat office. |
