  The World Bank Continues to Support Modernization

 

WASHINGTON, December 11, 2008 – The World Bank today approved a EUR84 million (USD$122.5 million equivalent) loan to the Port of Rijeka Authority for the Rijeka Gateway Project.
 The Rijeka Gateway II Project is a continuation of the Rijeka Gateway Program aimed at improving the competitiveness of Rijeka as a port city, situated strategically as the gateway for Corridor Vb, one of the more imdfgdportant Pan-European transport routes.  The program will modernize strategic port facilities, increase private sector involvement in the port, improve the Port of Rijeka Authority financial performance, and improve the port city environment, while better integrating Rijeka into international transport corridors.    ‘The Rijeka Gateway Program is not only about construction and modernization of the port. It is about helping Croatia’s economy become more dynamic and more competitive.
